Why Visualise?

Maybe you are wondering why? Why visualise? Why use visuals in your
communications or What is this guy Paul going on about?
Well visualising or using visuals in communication has been used for
thousands of years, from cave drawing to hieroglyphics we have always been
visual communicators. It is primevally with in us to communicate visually.
Yet we move away from this and create terrible PowerPoint presentations
with dot points in ugly typefaces to try and stimulate our audiences when
this is the worst thing we can do.
In fact a lot of the way we currently take notes, create documents or
presentations hinder the way we learn and retain knowledge.
Visuals or visual communication engages an audience more, engage our
brains more and stimulate us to think differently. In fact it is more natural and
much easier to retain knowledge when it is given to us in visual form.
I will follow with more facts but let me ask the question. What do you prefer?
Do you like to read one thousand pages of small serif text OR do you like to
read the bright colourful comic books and comic drawings, or look at a
thousand amazing paintings or watch a cartoon with bright colours, music,
fun, cartoon drawings and large block lettered text. The answer is obvious
and believe it or not your audience is answering the same!
Over 60% of us are visual thinkers or learners meaning we need to engage
our brain visually to pay full attention and learn thoroughly.
All the great thinkers were visual thinkers such as Albert Einstein and
Leonardo Da Vinci.
Visuals engage the right creative side of the brain, meaning both sides are
engaged during a presentation with visuals. This also puts us in a most
creative state helping in planning sessions or other strategic meetings.
Our brains can only hold up to 7 items of information at any one time. A
picture is worth a thousand words saving you more space for those other
pieces of information!
We have greater retention of visual knowledge over text or other forms of
information.
Our brains naturally think in visual form first. Think about it we all see where
we are going before we are there or when you lose your watch you visualise
where you saw it last!
To manifest what we want we must visualise and see it clearly in our heads
down to the slightest detail. So if we want our audiences to be interested that
intently shouldn’t we use visual communication?
The eye is lead to the picture, cartoon or comic first on any page of text and
knowing this and taking advantage of this means you can monetise on more
opportunities by visualising!
There have been tests done on creating, designing and even performing
where visualisation was used before taking action. The longer people
visualised something the better the result.
Cartoon drawings, comic drawings, art, movies, computer games, youtube,
animation, caricature, we are surrounded by so many forms of visual media,
are eyes pick up millions of pieces of information a second. We can use this to
our advantage and Visualise and Monetise!
