Biography
Paul Telling is a graphic facilitator/ recorder and creative communication
creation expert. Transforming communications creatively to impress
corporate audiences.
For Paul creativity has been a life long journey. From a young age Paul has
been visualising and monetising, not in a financial way but getting value from
his creations in fun, peer excitement and appreciation or awards. He spent his
younger years growing up in the Bushland shire of Hornsby NSW. Here he
spent many a day imagining, playing, dreaming and creating. His creations
included costumes, puppets, toys, cartoon drawings books, birthday and
Christmas cards, posters of favourite TV heroes, cubby houses, drawings,
paintings even putting on puppet shows for his family.
His school years were much the same while highly interested in the creative
arts of painting and drawing. He learnt the recorder and alto saxophone,
performing in the schools bands and recorder group. He also became part of
the school dance group and was the instigator for starting a boys group in
primary school (due to being the only guy in the all girl dance group).
During this time extra curricular activities included scouts; learning initiative
and innovation and leadership along with taking part in GangShow, a theatre
show where he sang, danced and acted for 9 years. Paul also was dedicated
to swimming and tennis becoming age champion several years in a row.
Although during school his creativity got him awards and entrance to
selective classes in art along with being short-listed for Art Express at the
Sydney gallery. His success was also in Computing studies and Mathematics
doing extra units in both and creating a cash register program with stock take
and product recall for his major project coming second in his class.
This made leaving high school into a degree hard as his careers advisor was
used to people being either right or left minded but here Paul was strong in
both. In the end it was decided that Industrial Design was the perfect area
where he could use all his strengths. Studying at the University of Technology
Sydney and graduating with second-class honours along with a sub major in
film and video design. Paul continued to create making cartoon drawings of
lecturers and short films with his brother during this time.
Paul found the most interesting part of his course around the psychology of
design, design thinking and the creative process and therefore has never
done work in the field of industrial design (although he has worked freelance
in the area of graphic and web design while in his current job). While looking
for work fresh out of university Paul stumbled upon a job working for
Capgemini in the role of knowledge worker in their Accelerated Solutions
Environment™.
The Accelerated Solutions Environment™ is a methodology and environment
for creating collaboration and buy in while solving complex business
problems fast, through parallel processing and iteration. This environment
and methodology was designed by an American couple Matt and Gail Taylor
or MG Taylor and has been around for 30 years.
This environment and knowledge work are all about being able to think
outside the box bring your own knowledge to the work and be part of any
role, from moving furniture to drawing pictures, cartoon drawings, to making
presentations. Over the last 4 years Paul has contracted for Capgemini
working in France, India, Korea and many parts of Australia. In this role he has
lead teams to implement events, graphic facilitated, facilitated small work
groups to get the most work done and become the most experienced
Knowledge worker at Capgemini in Australia. He also has worked for many
companies doing similar work such as Breeze Consulting, the Difference and
Triple Connect Consulting particularly doing graphic facilitation.
Working in this field since 2005 has given Paul the right mixture of
business knowledge, design thinking, facilitation, graphic facilitation and
creativity skills to help people communicate ideas better, work
collaboratively and effectively while having lots of fun doing it. He continues
to delve into the creative arts painting/ drawing, making funny animated
pictures and writing poetry while reading heavily on many topics close to his
heart.
His most recent achievements are walking on fire and jumping to a trapeze
from the top of a telegraph pole while attending and graduating Tony
Robbins Mastery University. Paul believes that if you are not growing you are
dying and is always looking for the next challenge or way of bettering himself
and others through his work.
